The 2002 International Conference on Computational Science

Call for Papers

The 2002 International Conference on Computational Science will be held at the Science Park Watergraafsmeer at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from April 21, 2002 till April 24, 2002.

Computational Science is increasingly becoming a vital part of many scientific investigations, affecting researchers and practitioners in areas ranging from engineering, sciences, finance and economics.

New challenges are arising in the fields of modeling of complex systems, sophisticated algorithms, advanced scientific computing and associated (multi-disciplinary) problem solving environments.

Due to the sheer size of many of these challenges the use of supercomputing and distributed and grid-based processing is inevitable.

The Conference offers the opportunity to discuss problems and solutions in this field, to identify new issues, and to shape future directions for research. Submitted papers have to be original, containing new and original results.

We invite you to submit a:

  • full paper of 6 to 10 pages (Letter or A4 paper) for oral presentation
  • proposal to organize a technical session and/or workshop (see the Call for Events Proposals for more information).

Submitted papers have to be original, containing new and original results.

Topics of Interest

The 2002 ICCS Conference will, among other topics, concentrate on (in no particular order):

  • Complex Systems: Modeling and Simulation
  • Hybrid Computational Methods
  • Data Mining and Information Retrieval
  • Web- and Grid-based Simulation and Computing
  • Parallel and Distributed Computing
  • Visualization and Virtual Reality
  • New large scale simulation application areas, e.g.:
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Risk Analysis
  • New algorithmic approaches to existing application areas, e.g.:
    • Weather and Climate Forecasting and Modeling
    • Connectionist Modeling
    • Fuzzy Logic
    • Reliability Engineering
    • Digital Imaging
  • Scientific Computing
  • Advanced Numerical Algorithms
  • Problem Solving Environments (including: Software Component Technology)
  • Education in Computational Science

Proceedings

The proceedings of the Conference will be published in the Springer Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. A selected number of papers will also be published as special issues of the appropriate journals.

Paper Submission

The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of LNCS. For formatting information, see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. A PostScript or PDF version of your paper must be submitted electronically through the Paper Submission section of this Web site.

Dates of deadlines for draft paper submission (full paper), notification of acceptance, and deadline for camera-ready paper submission and pre-registration may be found in the Important Dates section of this Web site.

Call for Events Proposals

Proposal for Organizing Technical Session and/or Workshop

We invite proposals for technical sessions and/or workshops. Each technical session will have at least 6 paper presentations. Sessions with a large number of papers may be approved as workshops. The session chairs will be responsible for all aspects of their sessions; including soliciting, reviewing, and selecting the papers. Some financial assistance may be available for the session chairs. After the Conference, some sessions will be considered for publication in appropriate journals as Special Issues with the session proposer as the Guest Editor of the journal.

Proposals to organize technical sessions should include the following information:

  • title of the technical session
  • name, affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address of the proposer(s)
  • description of the topic of the session (not exceeding 100 words)
  • a short description on how the session will be advertised.

The deadline for proposal submission is November 1, 2001. Please send your proposal to iccs@science.uva.nl.

The deadline for papers to be submitted directly to the session chairs is to be determined by the session chairs. However, session chairs must send a list of the accepted papers to the Conference organizers by December 17, 2001.
