The 26th ICCS will be hosted by the DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron | German Electron Synchrotron)<\/a>, in the “Bahrenfeld” district of Hamburg, easily reachable by S-Bahn (train) and bus.<\/p>\n\n

\n DESY is one of the world\u2019s leading accelerator centres. Researchers use the large-scale facilities at DESY to explore the microcosm in all its variety \u2013 from the interactions of tiny elementary particles and the behaviour of new types of nanomaterials to biomolecular processes that are essential to life.\n<\/p>\n\n

\nThe particle accelerators and detectors that DESY develops and builds are unique research tools. The facilities generate the world\u2019s most intense X-ray light, accelerate particles to record energies and open completely new windows onto the universe. That makes DESY not only a magnet for thousands of guest researchers, but also a coveted partner for national and international cooperations.\n<\/p> \n\n

\nDESY is a publicly-funded research centre of the Helmholtz Association, established in Hamburg on 18 December 1959. It has two locations: Hamburg (where ICCS will be held) and Zeuthen (Brandenburg), and a basic budget of 349 million euros.
\nIt employs approximately 3000 professionals, of which 1300 scientists, in addition to welcoming more than 3000 guest scientists from over 40 countries. Approximately 500 doctoral and postdoctoral students are involved in DESY, as well as countless master students.\n<\/p>\n\n
