Charlie Catlett Understand Cities Through Measurement and Embedded Intelligence
Charlie Catlett - Argonne National Laboratory & University of Chicago, USA
Session chair: Jack Dongarra

Abstract : Global urbanization, quality of life in cities—from air quality to mobility to equitable opportunity—and reducing negative impacts of cities on the natural environment are among the grand challenges of the 21st century. Within these challenges are critical research questions, suggesting that partnerships between the scientific community and city planners, designers, and operators—as well as city dwellers—will be essential. Catlett will discuss a series of collaborative interactions between the science community in Chicago and the City of Chicago, including the motivation and process behind the NSF-funded Array of Things project and how it is being replicated in other cities.
